Fall is nearly here and you know what that means. Time for football and tailgate parties. If your portable grill has seen better days, it’s time to team up with one that’ll score big with foodies and design lovers alike.
When folded, the Petit Gourmet portable propane gas grill with VersaStand looks like a colorful briefcase. But this is a convertible tabletop/freestanding grill with a built-in telescoping stand. It features a 145-inch grilling area (large enough to grill 8 steaks), a 5,500 BTU stainless steel burner and porcelain enameled grate; plus a spill-resistant drip tray. Surprisingly, it only weighs 17 pounds. At Amazon for $121.49 (free shipping for Prime members).
The Smoke Hollow 205 stainless steel propane pas grill is designed with a couple of things I haven’t seen with many grills of its size—a built-in thermometer gauge and 105-inch warming rack. This grill has a main rack surface totaling 205-inches and delivers an impressive amount of heat from its 10,000 BTU burner. Folding legs and a large carry handle make it easy to transport. For the best price, go to Amazon. $92.44 (free shipping for Prime members).
Coleman’s Roadtrip LXE portable propane grill has two fully adjustable 10,000 BTU burners, a 285-inch cooking surface with removable grease drip tray and mix and match porcelain coated grill, griddle and stove grates (sold separately); plus two attached side tables. This grill folds flat and is available in eight fashion colors at Wal-Mart (most retailers only offer one color). Grill/$172.52-$219.99. Grates/$25.63 each.
Crate and Barrel says that its Wherever Dual Fuel grill is the first of its kind. So far, I believe them because I can’t find another grill like this. It features 176-inches of cooking space, a locking hood and a thermostat for precise cooking temperatures and cooks either by charcoal or electricity. What’s also intriguing is that for just a few bucks more, this grill can be function as a smoker, too. Pretty cool design and functionality. Grill/$79.95. Smoker upgrade kit/$54.95.
For tailgaters who prefer pizza to burgers, there’s Cuisinart’s Alfrescamore portable outdoor gas pizza oven. It combines the pizza environment of a brick oven with the ease of a portable grill. 15,000 BTUs cook pizza in as little as five minutes on a 13-inch Cordierite pizza stone. There’s also a built-in warming tray and integrated smoke chip cup. This tabletop oven can be converted into a free-standing unit by pairing it with Cuisinart’s folding portable grill. Amazon’s price is the one to beat. Oven/$179.99. Grill stand/$59.99 (free shipping for Prime members).
This is the time of year when some retailers knock down the prices of their grills. So keep watch and then move fast if you come across a better deal.
